‘Sail the Solent’ Challenge

Our brand new ‘Sail the Solent’ challenge has launched and we can’t wait for you to join us on board!

Over two action packed weeks, we are offering a unique programme of accessible sailing events in the Solent and the Isle of Wight, inspiring people with multiple sclerosis.

A variety of day sailing events will depart from Port Solent in Hampshire from the 30th of June to the 14th of July 2024. Some will be in fully accessible boats such as the wheelchair adapted catamaran Spirit of Scott Bader, and all will be supported by an experienced crew who either have MS themselves, or understand the condition.

We aim to take over 100 people on this adventure, inspiring you to build strength, confidence and challenge your limitations.

Day sails, including fully accessible wheelchair adapted yachts, are an incredible way for people with MS to experience the restorative and regenerative powers of sailing. They are for many of our magnificent sailors, their first taste of sailing as part of a crew.

Our aim is to make this first experience, the start of your sailing journey, a personal journey, towards a life of new possibilities.

Over 80% of our new participants continue to attend day sail events or progress their journeys with us to other sailing Challenges and qualifications.

Make Yours a Fundraising Challenge!

As well as guaranteeing sailors a fabulous time, making lifelong friends, and developing skills out on the beautiful Solent water, we’re also using this two-week challenge to raise vital funds for our small but MIGHTY charity!

We want ‘Sail the Solent’ participants to also challenge themselves (and their nearest and dearest) to raise £100 each for Oceans of Hope.

This represents £1 per nautical mile, which will help support our charity’s ongoing programme of sailing events.

We’ve set a fundraising target of £10,000 for the duration of the challenge, which we know you’re going to help us achieve! It will enable us to deliver a two-week accessible day sailing event every year going forwards.

Sailors will get access to our JustGiving page to help collect online donations, an Oceans of Hope t-shirt, and a fundraising pack to include logos and graphics to help spread the word on social media.

If you’re happy to make yours a fundraising challenge, email: fundraising@oceansofhope.co.uk
