Oceans of Hope UK unveils 2020 sailing schedule

Oceans of Hope UK is pleased to announce its 2020 event schedule after a successful 2019. 2020 is set to be our most diverse and accessible ever, with three distinct challenges lined up.

Our aim is to help those living with MS gain self-confidence and a renewed sense of empowerment. The camaraderie of sailing a boat with people who have similar experiences creates an environment where people can comfortably share their hopes and fears. The Oceans of Hope experience is a catalyst for creating lasting friendships and a sense of community.

This coming year we wish to invite and embrace people to our events who have never sailed before and we have designed two short challenge events to provide an ideal introduction to sailing, both of which are fully wheelchair accessible.

Friday 26th – Sunday 28th June 2020, Bewl Water

In June we will be returning for a second time to Bewl Water in Kent (UK) for a residential weekend where everyone will have the chance to sail a number of specially-adapted dinghies and boats. This event was a big success last year and for many participants it got them hooked into sailing straight away. Click here for more info.

10th – 13th August 2020 (10am-4pm day sail), Port Solent marina

Our second event of 2020 will be at the prestigious Cowes Week regatta on the Solent, where we have the ‘Spirit of Scott Bader’ yacht booked. You will have the chance to see close up some of the racing for what it always the highlight of the year for sailing on the south coast. Click here for more info.

Turkey flotilla
10th-17th October (Week 1)
17th-24th October (Week 2)
24th-31st October (Week 3)

Finally, in October we will be returning to the gorgeous Fethiye in Turkey for a record three weeks of flotilla sailing. After many challenge events in Turkey we have found that October is the perfect time of year to visit – warm days, cool nights, flat seas and warm water. You will be living and sailing on board with other people with MS and with our own experienced skippers. Click here for more info.

We hope that 2020 provides an excellent range of challenges to suit those who are completely new to the sport and who would like to experience just a day or a weekend on the water. For those who wish to take part in a week long challenge in a big flotilla, then our Turkey event is perfect for you.

We believe that sailing really does work! It really brings back a sense of perspective on the MS condition and it really gives everyone the opportunity to achieve their own form of greatness again.

We are really excited to launch these events for 2020 and we hope to see lots of new faces along the way. With the return of Bewl Water and the introduction of our challenge during Cowes Week we hope to provide plenty of choice and give everyone a taste of the magic of sailing. We’ve had participants before who have never sailed, taken part in the Bewl Water event and have ended up booking on our flotilla challenge in Turkey that same year. People’s lives have been changed.
