Fabulous Fundraising from Peter, Liz, Sam and Ashbourne Golf Club
Peter Bembridge has been working hard at Ashbourne Golf Club in Derbyshire, raising a whopping £2000 for Oceans of Hope. In his tenure as Club Captain last year, Peter organised multiple special events such as Captain’s Day, prize auctions, and charity fundraisers and we couldn’t be more grateful for his efforts. MS is a cause close to Peter’s heart as his two daughters Liz and Sam both have a diagnosis.
Here’s what they think of their amazing dad, and of Oceans of Hope:
Explaining her desire to help our charity Liz said, “I always said I could have gone one of two ways with this disease, either fall into the depths of depression and self pity or look positively towards a future with things I can still do. I consider that my life with MS found its direction when I discovered Oceans of Hope. I made contact, applied for a place in 2017, and the rest is history!”
“Sailing was way out of my comfort zone, I had never even travelled alone before, let alone spent a week on the open seas in a small boat with total strangers. The support from Oceans of Hope was incredible. To be placed on an all female boat with the most incredible ladies, who are now friends for life, was truly magical. It was a week of laughs and triumphs, where MS was a mere afterthought most of the time. It was one of the best experiences of my life.”
Liz’s sister Sam, who also has MS, was diagnosed in 2020 at the age of 38 with four young children. Sam said, “My sister is very positive and does not let the condition stop her from enjoying life or taking part in everyday activities. Her experience with Oceans of Hope has been amazing and I hope to take part one day as well.”
“We are so proud of our dad for helping to raise such a large amount of money for the charity and both Liz and I wanted to ensure it went to those with MS at ground level, creating positive experiences for other people on their MS journeys.”
